I’m still totally ADHD -and- even though I might seem a bit unorganized at times and ALL over the place, the TRUTH IS that I get MORE DONE in one day than most people do in a week!
Here’s are the 10 signs to see if you are a PROCRASTINATOR and the #1 thing I do personally to get so much done!
(straight from Procrastinators Anonymous) Compulsive procrastinators may not have all the signs listed here, but if you identify with many of these characteristics, you are probably a compulsive procrastinator.
1. We keep disappointing other people and ourselves by not keeping our promises.
2. Difficulty getting started on new projects or transitioning from one project to another.
3. Poor Sense of Time – USUALLY LATE – chronically underestimating or overestimating how long a task will take us to complete.
4. Difficulty organizing projects by breaking them down into steps; we don’t know where to start, even when we’re willing to start.
5. Surrounded by clutter and disorganization in our homes and work spaces.
6. We are regularly late for appointments.
7. We are acutely aware of what we should be doing, or think we should be doing, and oddly out of touch with what we actually want and need.
8. Trouble saying “NO” to requests from others, and instead express our resentment through the passive resistance of procrastination.
9. Demand Resistance, (do what?) We do anything and everything except the one thing we most need to do.
10. Short-term thinkers, focusing on short-term pleasure while ignoring long-term well-being. (if you don’t have a written daily plan or even a business/marketing strategy, you might be a PROCRASTINATOR)
OMG, after reading this list, that was/is SOOOOO ME!
But I have figured out the SECRET to tricking myself every single day.
While there are a lot of things that go into having a successful business, IMPLEMENTATION is the one biggest one you need to have.
Without, VISION, IMPACT, Marketing Strategies & Tactics and Systems in place, it could get a little messy but if you don’t take ACTION on what you need to do, it will NEVER happen.
The IMPLEMENTATION piece is where most people fall short.
So what is my SECRET WEAPON? Or the weapon against my procrastinating nature…?
The answer is: TIME BLOCKING!
Yes, Time Blocking! This is my very tight-leash I put on myself. Even my man knows to put the time we want to spend time together INTO my calendar.
If it’s NOT in my calendar, then it doesn’t happen, period….
WHY? Because I’m so tough on myself? Absolutely Not…
If I don’t put it in my calendar, I will FORGET everything, maybe even my name so time blocking keeps me on track with everything including:
• what I was doing,
• what I need to do,
• what’s next
• where I need to be,
• what time I need to leave,
• who I need to call and even simply,
• how to plan my life
TIME BLOCKING – simplified
Color Coding –
Some people may think putting EVERYTHING in your calendar can be visually overwhelming, so I make sure I COLOR CODE my activities.
Also, when cash flow seems to be “slow” or I something seems to be going the wrong direction, I can easily look at the overall picture and see “by the COLOR” where I was spending most of my time.
The answer to my problems usually shows itself very quickly in the colors.
Here are the colors I personally use but I suggest you use what makes sense to your brain-style and your life.
I add pop-up reminders and alarms for important things, so I don’t lose track of time and for the most part.
Also, everything is usually blocked out in 1-hour increments.
I also add “labels” in my appointments like “SS” for Strategy Session or “CC” for Current Client so if I need to do a “SEARCH”, all of my history can be pulled up at a moments notice.
Having the information on your history, your future, and your productivity is HUGE and will be the key thing to adding $$$$ to your bottom line.
You CAN be an IMPLEMENTER!
This all may or may not make complete sense to you, so I suggest you analyze how your brain works and create systems that work for you.
First, there is NO SYSTEM IN THE WORLD that works for EVERYONE!
Also, It takes 21 days of CONSISTENT use to form a habit so you can’t do it for a week and then say “it didn’t work.”
By the way, before my son left to college, we blocked out every Monday from 3:30 to 5 pm and it was HIS TIME. If he wanted me to go to the grocery store with him or just sit outside and talk, it didn’t matter. It was his time, and everything else was OUT of that moment.
He ultimately chose it to work on his topics for his TV show and brainstorm ideas for his business, school, etc. (which, of course, is my gift) but it didn’t matter. If he chose to bake cookies together, then that’s what we would do.
IMPLEMENT and BE IN THE MOMENT!
The bottom line is that you have to live life IN THE MOMENT you are in. You can’t be IN one moment, yet thinking about another. It’s not fair to YOU, your clients or the people you love. (I’ve theoretically known this but Sharon Wacks imprinted this in my head several years ago)
With that being said, your brain does NOT have the capacity to PARK all that information all at once, to draw from, at any given notice. So STOP trying to make it work that way and then beat yourself up for forgetting things and not getting things done.

Writing a book ain’t gonna make you any money!
I’m currently in St. Petersburg for my first weekend visiting my son in college. You may already know that he wrote a book at 16 Yrs old. What you might NOT know is that he had very little social skills and was also failing school. In the following year, he actually wrote and published three books and had his own TV show. He also didn’t get into college because of his superb grades or test scores. His first book was simple, 7 Days To Understanding Your Teen, and it was from his heart. That book CATAPULTED his opportunities and opened so many doors for him. It set him on the path of his personal development and his business growth.
Those books and the additional opportunities that were created from them are what got him into college. While he did sell over 1,000 books in the last year, it had nothing to do with MONEY. It had to do with making him standout from the crowd so that any decent college would see him for his unique value and what he had to offer and in turn, let him come to their school. I can proudly say that he is now in the Entrepreneurship program at USF in St. Pete. He still struggles every day with Algebra but when it comes to Revenue Projections, he’s got that one down pat!
As a Business and Entrepreneurial Coach, I often see people who get wrapped up and DISTORTED by the idea that they want to write a book or create an info product to “make more money.” The problem is that they don’t even have a foundation down in their business before doing so and believe that a book or a product is the solution to their problems. There is no magic pill for a solid business foundation, period.
People, you don’t make money from info products or books!
Well, typically you don’t.…
If you are already a highly paid and respected expert such as Jack Canfield and also have his multimillion dollar marketing plan, SURELY you WILL make money from these products and/or books.
But if you’re like me or my son who was really someone “unknown” the first time we wrote a book or created a product, you are NOT GOING TO MAKE ANY MONEY from that book! Not right away anyway…
STOP thinking that you’re going to CREATE PRODUCTS or BECOME AN AUTHOR or co-author of a compilation book to MAKE MORE MONEY! That’s not how it works and that’s not what it’s for.
“Well Shelley, how do you know this? and why the heck are you telling your clients to do it?”
First, I believe that I’ve become a “quix-pert” in this area since my son, myself and my team have put out five books (all published on Amazon) many online products from Teleseminar’s to two physical CDs, one-DVD and even the “build my list program” completely packaged as a set … oh yes, I almost forgot…Our Signature program, “Get Your IPA On!”… all in less than 18 months time! (I got a CLUE really fast… I CAN be COACHED!)
In our COACHING PROGRAM,, we have quarterly exclusive VIP Catapult Days where we teach our clients how to do something specific based on their current needs and also to IMPLEMENT so they don’t get STUCK and prevent themselves from actually moving forward in their business. This quarter, we are doing a “Create a Product” Day just for my VIP clients to show them exactly how to create their own product, book that is published on Amazon or downloads and e-books and programs?
Why? Well, I truly believe that if you are going to have a successful service business or practice, you must have a published book or some sort of physical and/or online product.
There are many reasons WHY but it’s not because they “directly make you money.” They do, however, contribute to the bottom line of your business in so many different ways. Here’s HOW:
Having a published book whether it’s self-published or not can position you as an expert and give you almost-instant credibility.
It gives you something to have physically, show and sell whenever you are at an event and/or speaking.
Having a published book helps you get speaking engagements much more easily and makes you standout from the crowd.
Having a published book and or info product gives you more credibility.
Having products or books also gives you something to offer as “bonuses” when you are selling one of your programs or services for higher fees.
Once you accumulate enough of these products, you can actually CREATE your own Signature program or home study program with them which can either support your clients or EXPAND YOUR REACH.
Once you’ve built your list and your following, you can create PASSIVE INCOME including royalties from amazon; just like the check I just received the other day.
Please know there IS a is a SYSTEM to planning and launching these products and if you follow it, you will drum up excitement about your products and services and people start coming to you much more quickly. Your ideal clients find you much more easily and they are much more eager to work with you.
Finally, as you are creating these products, you become much clearer on what you are doing, who you were working with, who you are serving, how are you serve them, and really what direction you want to take your business. Because you get into ACTION, the growth of your business will CATAPULT.
No Money vs Mo’ Money!
The sales of these products typically only generate income equivalent to “mice nuts.” Yes, my boyfriend uses that expression; pretty small. I don’t think we’ve made MORE money than we have actually spent on creating and promoting the products. However, the speaking engagements, the people we have met, the people who have been drawn to us, the list we have built because of it all, and all the connections we have made along with the recognized expert status we’ve been able to create, has brought us thousands. It’s been a lot of work but definitely worth it.
Selling 2 books could equal $20 but selling 100 books could constitute and income of $20,000 or much higher depending on who you meet, how you attract them, how you follow up and how you serve them. These products are part of your SALES FUNNEL.
In order to have a successful business, you must have your sales funnel mapped out and in place. It needs to make sense, appeal to your ideal client and take them along the right journey.

First things first, there are so many reasons why you may not be making the money you truly deserve. I’m going to cover a few that me and my team see commonly almost every single day when working with business owners, start-ups and even just meeting them out and about in my daily life.
The #1 reason people are not making money in their business is because they have not committed 100% to treating their business as a REAL business and putting on their CEO hat. Its time to put your big girl panties on, (or big boy undies), ACT LIKE a CEO and treat your business as such; a REAL business!
Once you‘ve made that COMMITMENT, not just to yourself but to your business, then come the mistakes as to why you are not making MORE MONEY.
Below are the 5 Most Common Mistakes I see every day. Which ones are you making?
1. LACK OF CLARITY of your Mission and your Vision – the number one mistake I see so many business owners make is not being clear in what they’re trying to achieve. While you do not have to do a “formal” business plan if you‘re not seeking financing from a bank, you do have to have a PLAN (written)! In order to have a written PLAN, MUST KNOW exactly what your PURPOSE is.
The premise of “Do what you Love and the Money will Follow” is bullshit!. Someone left the middle part of that statement out, and it has really screwed up many entrepreneurs over the years. It should say “Do what you Love… have a REAL PLAN, take Consistent ACTION with IPAs (income producing activities) …and then, the MONEY will Come”.
Do you see the missing puzzle link?
You cannot create a real plan unless you are clear on what your vision is – the big rock, the purpose, the goal, the mission, whatever you want to call it. If you do not know exactly where you are going, how can you possibly get there?
2. Not knowing your IMPACT statement can be devastating, cost you A TON of money and cause you to lose potential clients and customers each and every day. If you stumble or go around in circles when someone asks you whatyou do, this means that you lack clarity in your message that you carry from your brain out of your mouth to people or onto paper. Having your true STATEMENTwill clear all of this up for youreally quick, and your perfect, ideal client will PERK UP as soon as you tell them what youdo. If other people do not perk up, it is because they are not your ideal client. I see this almost every time I go to a networking meeting or am interviewing a potential new client. If a simple website developer cannot even tell me what they love to do or whom they love to work with and what their unique benefits are, then how will anyone know if they are the right person to hire? We help you clear this up quickly in our Signature program, Get Your IPA On!. We do not let you go any further in your business and waste your time, energy and money until you have this ironed out so everything else will come so much more smoothly to you, especially MORE MONEY into your bank account.
You can be the best (fill in the blank) in the world but if people do not know whatyou do in a clear concise manner, how you can serve them, or how to find you, they’re not going to write you a check. Simple fact!
Giving yourself some zippy name like the “bedazzled business babe” isn’t going to bring your clients either. You can’t possibly know what your IMPACT STATEMENT is until you are clear on your target market, niche, who youreally serve, the pains challenges and struggles that they deal with and the benefits they get from truly working with you.
WARNING: Get clear on your impact before youproceed to do anything else and stop draining your bank account as you watch all of your potential clients just pass you by to go and work with someone else.
3. Your Marketing STRATEGIES & TACTICS are too few, too MANY or just a big MESS!
Creating a brand, developing a logo, letterhead, business cards,website, marketing plans, blogs, videos,articles, and everything you are doing in your business can be a total waste of time, energy and a boat-load of money if you do not know what your impact is. Stop creating websites, logos and business cards and tell you get clear on this. You‘re wasting your time and money, as soon as you do, everything else will start going much more smoothly. I promise!
The number one reason WHY businesses FAIL is because people QUIT. They quit right before they’re about to strike GOLD, and it’s very disheartening. This happens because business owners are exhausted and aren‘t making the money they deserve even after they have worked their tails off to build their businesses. How does that happen to good people? Well, simple… Their marketing strategies and tactics are all over the place and do not have any consistency or structure to them, and unless they TIE to an IPA and a plan, they are worthless to you. Of all the things that I just mentioned such as Clarity, Impact, Strategies & Tactics, etc.. youMUST have those things in place to know HOW to decide on which “SYSTEMS” will best serve you such as which CRM is best, which financial or bookkeeping system is best, which list building system is best, which customer management system is best, which website and online systems are best for you, how to manage your social media and your marketing systems, how to handle creating your business, getting new business, doing the business and RUNNING the business… It too can be exhausting if you do not have the tools to make the best decision.

5. Accountability and Coaching – yeah yeah yeah, you‘ve heard it all… the more money you spend on a coach, the better you‘re going to get. Right??? I adamantly say, “Wrong!” You should EVALUATE where you are in your business life-cycle and find the person who is the best fit for you. You do not have to like them, but you do need to be able to trust them and know that they have your best interest at heart at all times. I have had to change coaches over time, but that does not mean they were not ALL amazing. First, you do start with the mindset and learning about yourself, etc.. But when you know that you‘re focused on your mindset every day, most people need ACCOUNTABILITY soyou can ensure you are going to take the actions you‘ve committed to takingand that you know HOW to do them. How are you supposed to know what the next step is if someone, who has already been there and done that, doesn’t SHOW YOU THE “WHAT” and the “HOW”???
NOTE: A good BUSINESS COACH is also a CONSULTANT who canteach you the steps and HOW to IMPLEMENT your PLAN. In order to be able to help YOU DECIDE on which SYSTEMS are best for YOU, they should have an overall knowledge of how they function and operate and definitely know how to LOG IN.. If you can’t TRACK it, you can’t ACHIEVE it.

Is your bank account Fat and Happy or is it STARVING?
There are two types of clients who have reached out to me lately needing help in their business. It’s been a clear trend. First, there is the is a person who has a dream or a passion/gift/strength but really doesn’t know how to get their business started. Some may not have started at all, or have been involved in another program they joined with high hopes (and a lot of cash) that has caused a lot of busy work for them but no matter how hard they have worked, followed explicit directions or tried to make it work, they’re still not making money, and they are not getting clients.
The second type is a person who’s been in business for a while and feels that their business is always in “Feast or Famine” mode. (these are the exact words one of my new clients used a month ago who now states they landing more clients last week than they have landed in 15 years in any one week) This Feast Or Famine – Type seems to have significant highs and significant lows and the exhaustion they are experiencing has made them vividly think of just giving up. On occasion for some, they may even have a spouse who has suggested on occasion for them to go “get a real job”. “But I have a real job” they say and “I don’t understand why they don’t understand”. “I’m not getting the support I want from home” is another common complaint I hear and “I love what I do, I just want to be able to serve more people”. Other Coaches have come to me, who are DAMN GOOD COACHES, but are struggling to find clients. I hear this stuff everyday and it hurts me so much to see these amazing people who have amazing gifts and talent be in pain and not be able to share their gift with others.
Those who come to me inquiring about my services don’t come to me because they are money hungry or all they desire is more money. They come to me because there are things in their life, many of those which are intangible, they want for themselves, or they want to be able to give to others, and having more money would certainly make these things come to fruition.

I finally decided to take a day off today on Sunday, and now this story is just coming out of me for whatever reason, I don’t know. I’m assuming it’s because the universe wanted me to share this message with you. I started reading a book lately as required by my mastermind. I wasn’t excited that I was being told to read a book but for some reason, I feel like it was something I was supposed to do. Boy, was I right! I want to share some of the things that I have learned from this book over the last few weeks. Remember, we’re not always learning new things, we are just hearing them and seeing them at times that we need to or ARE READY to hear them. They hit us the hardest at that moment.
The things that I am about to share with you are examples of WHY my business is a FEAST, and when I don’t practice these things, why my business was a famine. I can assure you this is the same thing that is happening for you.
1. It’s never enough! If you’re someone who is working very hard because you feel you don’t have enough money, enough clients, enough time, enough anything, then stop using those words! The big AHA for me reading this learning this in this book is that the truly wealthy dwell of ENOUGH. Wealth is a consciousness, not a number. It’s a way of thinking, feeling, and seeing. That does NOT mean to stop working hard, stop PLANNING properly or to lose your drive and motivation. What it means is to be happy AND hungry. Appreciate what you have and also enjoy the adventure of expanding your world: stretching and striving for better not because you NEED to but because seeking improvement is the nature of your life. Perfection is not a place, it is a journey. Be assertive and consistent in reaching for more and ensure you are taking action on the RIGHT things that allow the universe to bring more into your life. (I show my clients how to make more money. I don’t have them do MORE things; I change the way they are doing things)
2. Why is everyone else being more successful than me while I’m working so hard? Well, this is one I struggled with personally for a long time, and did for my entire life. I always felt like I had to work harder and longer for the same things that seem to come so easily for other people. What I’m learning is that life is only going to give you what you are open to receiving AND what you “believe” that you deserve. It’s one thing for you to say that you want all these wonderful and awesome abundant things. But do you really think that you deserve them? Do you really think that you can actually have them? My dad kept a picture on his wall his entire life from when he knew Coach Bear Bryant while he was at the University of Alabama. The man was magnetic and it was interesting for me to learn that he never lost a game when he was the coach. It was fascinating for me to learn that he never once watched or showed videos of the mistakes his team members made. What he did instead was show videos of what people did right. What we focus on is what we get. Stop worrying about why other people are doing great things and only focus on what you are good at; then GO DO MORE OF IT! It used to drive me crazy to see other coaches who seem to be more successful and I also felt I was a better coach or better at this or better at that. I didn’t think it was fair. But it didn’t matter because I was focused on the wrong things. Now I focus on what I’m good at and that’s helping people make money. When I changed what I focused on, all of my clients started making more money and experiencing leaps and bounds in their success. Then SO DID I! Hmmm, interesting how that happens.
3. I can’t fill my programs or I can’t sell my services! People just aren’t buying or signing up! My response is – Those people who ARE selling their programs and services are selling them because they believe in themselves, and their programs/services, AND they BELIEVE they DESERVE IT.
That’s not all though. It’s a two part process. They are also doing the correct things to promote them in a clear, consistent way where their ideal clients can hear them and want them. You can’t have one without the other. If you have the process down, but don’t have the belief down, it’s not going to work, and visa versa. Someone’s lack of faith or continuous questioning of themselves and the quality of their own work is preventing them from being able to sell it to everyone who needs it. If you aren’t clear in your message and are 100% confident that what you do is going to help other people in such a way that their life is going to be better than it was before they met you, why would you sell it? Why would someone else want it? Why would potential clients come to you for help? Stop trying to sell your products and services because you want to sell them or because you need to make more money. Sell them because you know 100% in your heart that it is going to make someone else’s life better and that they truly need it. If you don’t believe this, then go back to the drawing board and make it so. However until you believe that what you offer is going to make a difference in someone’s life, how will you be able to convince them that it will be. Notice, I did not say perfect. I said help someone to improve their life or make it better. Believe it! Then promote it with all of your belief!
So there are few more lessons I’ve learned that have become very clear to me over the last couple of years and even those which become much clearer each and every day. I will share more in the future but for today, on a lazy Sunday, I felt that these three were most important to share and that there was someone out there who needed to hear them just as I needed to at that moment when I did.

If you were bringing in the money and your businesses was consistent, and not an up-and-down roller coaster, or “feast and famine” and your pain was EXTINGUISHED, everything else would change, as well. Even the comments would cease as others are thrilled to join in your happiness. However until we make a decision and the COMMITMENT that what we are doing IS what we were meant to do in this life, that we are ALL IN, and we ARE making a difference another people’s lives, the feast or famine will continue, the lack of support will continue and the lack of money and cash flow will continue. Make the choice to COMMIT.
